Freetown-Lakeville Middle School opened on September 15, 2002, then serving students in grades 5 to 8 from the towns of Freetown and Lakeville, Massachusetts. Since September 2004, it has served grades 6 to 8. Grade 5 students currently attend the George R. Austin Intermediate School. Enrollment is currently around 800. While the majority of students continue their education at Apponequet Regional High School, some are accepted at Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School in Rochester, Massachusetts and at area private high schools.
Freetown-Lakeville MS follows three "core values": Respect, Responsibility, and Resiliency. These were laid out by principal Dave Patota. They summarize what the school expects of students.
At the end of every month, the school has and assembly called the "C.A.R.E. awards." It is for people who have followed those values. In the beginning of every term Mr. Patota gathers each grade in the auditorium for a "Patota talk".

In November 2010, a student told his friend that he had planted a bomb in the boys' bathroom during parent teacher conferences. The Guidance Department investigated and determined that there was no threat, then notified the Police Department who investigated the next morning.[1]
On May 27, 2011, the school is planning to dedicate a bench to the deceased Tyler Trahan. The ceremony will take place in the football field, with over 850 participants. This bench will be placed in the eagle garden and will stay there permanently.[2]
As of December 2011, Sarah Duggan, former assistant principal at FLMS, left the building for George R. Austin Intermediate School. Elizabeth Sullivan, a now-former 7th grade English teacher, has taken her place. No ceremonies were hold.
